What is FECO Cannabis Oil?

The world of cannabis is not nearly as simple as it once was. The days of illegal black-market cannabis are fading away quickly.  In states such as Oregon, California, Colorado, Washington, Illinois, and many others, cannabis is regulated and sold to adults over 21. These recreational cannabis markets offer a rapidly evolving array of products ranging from cannabis flower to edibles, extracts, and concentrates including a variety of different types of cannabis oils. One of the newest forms of high potency, orally ingested concentrates is known as FECO. This amazing product can be found here at Doctor’s Orders or many other top-rated dispensaries in Portland and beyond.

How is FECO Different from other extracts or concentrates?

FECO stands for Full Extract Cannabis Oil. FECO is derived from whole plants using a solvent to separate cannabinoids and terpenes from plant material in a process known as extraction. There are several methods of cannabinoid extraction that make use of a variety of different solvents ranging from CO2 to butane, as well solventless methods that make use of sifting and/or heat and pressure to isolate the desired contents of the plant. Typically, these types of extracts are consumed through dabbing or other means of vaporization such as vape pens.

While FECO can often be consumed through combustion or vaporization, it’s cannabinoid contents are decarboxylated, meaning they are already ‘activated’ and do not need to be heated up to be absorbed by the body and therefore can be consumed orally. This type of concentrate usually comes in a syringe as opposed to a cartridge or glass container. Pro tip: FECO is very sticky, so it’s not very enjoyable on its own, try a few rice grain size droplets on any food of your choice.

A popular form of FECO is Rick Simpson Oil. Also known as RSO, this variety of FECO is made by using a specific extraction recipe originally created by Simpson himself that makes use of naphtha or ethanol alcohol as a solvent. While the recipe is slightly different, the effects of RSO and other FECO are largely the same.

What is FECO used for?

Full Extract Cannabis Oil gets its name from the fact that it is extracted from whole plant material as opposed to solely buds or trim, and for that reason it contains a very wide spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes. Medical cannabis users may find various cannabinoids found in FECO to be effective for pain relief, reduction of inflammation, appetite stimulation, nausea relief and many other applications. The most well-known cannabinoids are THC, CBD, CBN, and CBG, but currently there are over 100 known cannabinoids and every day researchers are learning more about them. Unlike some extracts, FECO can be orally ingested, sparing the lungs from the potential harm of smoking or vaping while still delivering the desired benefits.

Does FECO get you high?

The short answer is yes. The majority of professionally made Full Extract Cannabis Oil does contain THC, which is a psychoactive cannabinoid that is primarily responsible for the euphoric or ‘intoxicating’ effects of cannabis generally referred to as the “high.” There are strains that have different ratios of cannabinoids that may contain virtually zero THC, and FECO derived from them would likely reflect that same ratio. It is not uncommon to see FECO products with a 1:1 or 1:2 Ratio of THC to CBD, so be sure to check out the testing information found on the packaging to be sure you are getting the right product to fit your needs.

Summary

FECO is a cannabis concentrate that can be used by medical or recreational consumers for a variety of applications. It’s most commonly found in a syringe and can be ingested orally. Depending on the specific cannabinoid content of each batch, it’s effects may vary, but it commonly contains THC which does have psychoactive effects. It’s a great option for those who wish not to smoke or vape but still enjoy the effects of highly concentrated cannabinoids.
